Virtual Care – access a GP while keeping safe
Virtual Care is another great initiative from the Scheme that will save you time, money and effort – and keep you safer while the COVID-19 pandemic continues. This new benefit allows you to have a virtual consultation with a General Practitioner (GP) at participating pharmacies nationwide, facilitated by an on-site nurse.
How does it work?
Simply find your closest participating pharmacy in the list below. Visit the pharmacy and speak to the on-site nurse. The nurse will examine you and, if needed, arrange for an on-the-spot virtual consultation with a GP via video conference.
The virtual GP can prescribe medication or provide you with a referral to consult with your General Practitioner (GP), or a specialist, if needed. The details of your consultation will also be sent to your own GP to keep your medical records up to date.
Who are the GPs and nurses who form part of Virtual Care?
Our members are assured that all the GPs who form part of this initiative are fully accredited and registered in South Africa – most of them run their own practices and have an average of 12 years’ experience. They have been carefully selected, screened and trained with the relevant technology before joining this initiative. Likewise, all nurses are registered in South Africa, experienced and well-trained.
The GPs performance is also continuously tracked and monitored on the system, while a rating system allows nurses and patients to rate the GP care after every consultation.
How much will it cost and how will it be covered?
The virtual care consultations will cost R200 for a consultation with a GP and R90 for a consultation with a nurse. These costs will be covered in line with your Plan’s provision for consultations.
