How life has changed for all of us since the beginning of this year! We have had to learn to do so many things differently - from work to shopping, to even interacting with our loved ones.
As more research is done, scientists remain baffled by the virus that causes COVID-19. On the positive side, it seems that most of those infected do not even develop symptoms - it is really only a small minority who end up in hospital and ICU. On the more negative side, healthcare professionals are discovering that COVID-19 causes a range of other, unexpected (and even long-term) health problems in certain patients.
We are at such a strange crossroads. On the one hand, epidemiologists are warning that we are approaching our peak in South Africa (the most dangerous time for infection), and on the other hand our lockdown restrictions are being lifted to save the economy, tempting us to regain some normality in our lives by going out of the house a bit more frequently.
I urge you to be extra careful with your most precious asset - your health - at this time. Especially if you are older and have existing health conditions, stay at home as far as possible. But even if you are younger and seemingly fit and healthy, please do not take chances with your wellbeing.
Stay safe, and know that the Scheme continues to be here for you!
