Spring has sprung and everyone (apart from those suffering from hayfever!) is seemingly coming out of hibernation mode. Gyms are getting fuller, and more people seem to be walking and jogging - partly due to lockdown restrictions being relaxed, but probably mostly because of a natural desire to become more active now that the days are becoming longer and warmer. There also seems to be a general air of hope that we're past the worst of the pandemic and that we can maybe start looking forward to a more normal "normal".
I feel like a bit of a spoilsport, then, to throw a damper on the general mood by (yet again!) urging members to remain careful. Graphs tracking Covid-19 in Europe shows a second wave that is even more intense than the first, and although South Africa has not followed trends exactly as predicted, it would be unwise to think that we will escape a second wave. So please continue washing your hands and wearing your mask in public, and preferably limit your social contact if you are in a vulnerable grouping.
At the same time, do embrace this wonderful season and the opportunities it offers to be outside: walking and gardening, breathing fresh air and getting some sun!
Yours in health
